Cleaning
Transferring your records to CD is an ideal way to preserve older and out-of-production music to a more durable and useful format. To produce a quality final product, V.U. Sound Studio uses a specialized, multi-step process. First your records are cleaned to remove any surface dirt, dust and oils from handling. (See pictures of our physical cleaning process below)

Some of our industry standard cleaning tools A specially formulated cleaning solution is applied and the record is wet cleaned using a nylon
record brush.
The record is then vacuumed dry, using a velvet faced vacuum nozzle, removing
all the lifted dirt and
excess fluid.
After the record is physically cleaned it is played on our studio turntable. The audio is sent to our computer for further digital cleaning.

Digitizing
After the physical cleaning, the record is played on our studio turntable with the signal routed through a phono pre-amplifier specifically designed to apply an RIAA Equalization Curve (when required) that standardizes how records made after 1953 were recorded. The turntable output is routed into our studio computer and a digital image of the audio is created and stored on the computer’s hard drive.

Restoration
Records are subject to all sorts of non-music noise. Even after a thorough cleaning, dust, small imperfections, and damage to the record surface create "clicks", "pops", "crackle", "rumble" and "hiss" sounds in the output. V.U. Sound Studio maintains specialized digital filters and software tools to remove these unwanted noises. Using the digital image of your record, we listen to each song and apply these filters individually and as required on progressive passes through each track until only the pure originally recorded audio remains.

Transfer
Once all tracks of your record are "cleaned" of unwanted noise, we apply dynamic normalization, and any required compression and equalization to meet our CD mastered sound standards and record the mastered digital tracks to your new CD.
